Investigation concludes remains in Ohio River were a part of a deer carcass

BELPRE, Ohio (WTAP) – UPDATE 3/28/2023 6:47 p.m.

After Little Hocking dive team breached the water they later discovered what they thought were human remains ended up being the carcass of a deer.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office thought the characteristics of the remains fit a human-like description so they took action.

First responders are attempting to recover the remains, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Murky water conditions and a steep river bank are preventing access to the remains.

Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department is aiding in recovery with a boat.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An unidentified body was found in the Ohio River.

The body was found near Beach Drive on Tuesday, March 28, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

WTAP received the call from the Sheriff’s Office at 4:37 p.m.

First responders are currently recovering the body.
