Small business owners-and those looking to start one-got a day's worth of advice from business professionals Thursday.
Marietta College hosted the fourth annual Mid-Ohio Valley Entrepreneurship Expo, of which WTAP was a proud sponsor.
Speakers talked participants through the process of starting a business, and keeping it competitive.
The latter has become more important, in an era of "big box" and internet retailers.
"I still think there's a lot of things a small business can do to separate themselves from the Amazons of the world," said Chris Pfeiffer, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the college's department of entrepreneurship. "That's the authentic, personal communications with your customers, being involved in the communities. That's stuff that's hard to replicate for the big guys."
Pfeifer says the internet allows businesses of all kinds to sell products world-wide.
Former "Shark Tank" contestant Dale King presented the keynote address during the noon hour.

WTAP is a proud sponsor of a day-long conference Thursday, September 26th, at Marietta College.
Its purpose: to help people starting new businesses.
The Mid-Ohio Valley Entrepreneurship Expo is designed to bring aspiring and current business owners and business professionals under the same roof.
"Aspiring entrepreneurs, small business owners, medium sized business owners educators and resource providers to all meet under the same roof," says college professor Jacqueline Khorassani, "spend a whole day together and become aware of each others existence and the type of resources they can actually provide to each other."
The expo begins at 9 AM Thursday, and continues until 5:30 PM, on the Marietta College campus.
