This week is Wave Con in Marietta, which is a convention thrown by the YouTube channel Blind Wave for their fans.

Blind Wave is a YouTube channel featuring reaction videos, reviews, game play and more. The five men featured on the channel produce about 25 videos a week, as well as a few live streams. And all that hard work has paid off, as they now have over 430,000 subscribers on YouTube.

“About three years ago, I quit my day job and started doing this full time and we now have four other guys that do it full time as well, so there’s five of us total and then we have some part timers as well,” said Eric Whiteley, a Blind Wave Partner.

430,000 subscribers is a lot but, YouTube can be a tricky business.

“Right now our business model is sort of three fold, we’re primarily on YouTube and that’s where we get most of our views, but it’s not necessarily where we get all of our revenue, because ad revenue just isn’t what it was five-ish years ago,” said Rick Martin, a Blind Wave Partner.

Luckily for Blind Wave, they seem to have a very supportive fan base, as they are now in the top 25 Patreon campaigns in the world.

Blind Wave shows the love right back to their fans. They’re putting on their third Wave Con this week at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.

They’ve had about 70 fans come to visit and participate in some local activities such as mini golf and rollerblading. They’ve also been giving tours of their Front Street studio.

Wave Con will continue through this weekend, and anyone is welcome to stop by.
